The St Andrews-Loches Alliance - La Nouvelle Alliance

The Alliance was founded in November 1997 to oversee cultural links and exchanges between St Andrews in Scotland and Loches en Touraine in France. The initial formation was supported by the Royal Burgh of St Andrews Community Council and le Conseil Municipal de Loches. In the period since then well over 600 person visits and 58 official visits - cultural, educational, sporting etc - between St Andrews and Loches have taken place making this one of the most successful link programmes between small towns in Europe.

These pages provide information about past, current and future activities of the Alliance and links to relevant further web pages.

We publish regular newsletters and the text of most of them is archived on this site.

Here is the story of the visit to Loches by 5 girls from St Leonard's School

In St Andrews week November2002 we welcomed a small delegation from Loches to St Andrews. At a dinner in honour of our visitors the Alliance Chairman, Donald Macgregor produced a welcoming poem written in English the text of which is reproduced here in English, and here with an accompanying translation into French.
